Comparison of Christianity with Chinese Philosophies(5th official blogspot entry)

CHINESE PHILOSOPHY has a history of several thousand years;it's origin is often track back to the YI JING (the book of changes), an ancient compendium of divination, which uses a system of 64 hexagrams to guide action. The Tao Te Ching of Lao Tzu and the Analects of Confucius both appeared around the 6th century BCE, slightly ahead of early Buddhist Philosophy in Northern India and slightly after pre-Socratic philosophy in Ancient Greece. Confucianism represents the collected teachings of the Chinese sage Confucius who lived from 551 to 479 BCE. Legalism is responsible for creating the world's first meritocracy, which holds that one's status should be determined by tha ability instead of ancestry , wealth, or friendship. The Qin Dynasty can be both critical and yet relatively tolerant of one another. In the Han Dynasty, there are maybe no move to ban or censor other schools of thought. Despite and because of the debates and competition, they generally have cooperated and shared ideas, which they would usually incorporate with their own. Chinese Philosophy has spread around the world in forms such as the "NEW CONFUCIANISM" and "NEW AGE IDEAS". Many in the academic community of the west remain skeptical, and only a few assimilate Chinese philosophy into their own research, whether scientific or philosophical.

Christianity~>most of the Asian countries are either Hindu, Islam, and Buddhist believer. In this vast continent, only two countries are christian majority; the Philippines and East Timor. The Philippines was considered as the only christian country in Asia. It is located in South East Asia, and surrounded by non-christian countries, but despite of it's location, the Philippines is a christian country.

4th Official Blogspot Entry (Social Studies)

"There are broad trends in our time that are the direct result of past history. Among the many examples of such history that could be noted ins the "OPIUM WAR" fought in China more than a century ago".

~>How are the events connected with our time?
In the Chinese Century, they invented so many things that are very useful for some Filipinos today. In the Ming Dynasty, they invent the paper making, printing compass and gun powder. These gadgets or materials are very useful today. The most important material that the Ming dynasty invent is the paper and the compass. The paper is one of the most important material for you to be able to write while the compass helps you to know the right direction or track.

In the Ming Dynasty, The Great wall of China was built. Great Wall of China was built to protect China from Mongols.The Great Wall winds up and down across the desserts,grasslands,mountains,and plateaus stretching approximately 8,821.8 kilometers (5,522 miles) from east to west of China.Great Wall of China is the one of the Greatest Wonders of the World.

THE KING and I

I watched the movie "KING AND I" with some of my classmates.We need to watch this movie because this is our 1st project in Social Studies. This movie is so interesting. The story of the movie "THE KING AND I" is all about ANNA an English teacher and his son Louis.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Summary:
Mrs. Anna Leonowens(an English teacher) and her son Louis arrive in Siam(now Thailand), where she has contracted to teach English to the children of the royal household. She threatens to leave when she had been promised is not available, but falls in love with the children. A new slave, a gift of a vassal king, translates "Uncle Tom's Cabin" into a Siamese ballet, expressing her unhappiness at being with the king. She attempts to escape with her lover. Anna and the king fall in love, but her British upbringing inhibits her from joining his harem.She is just about to leave Siam when she hears of the king's imminent death, and returns to help his son, her favorite pupil, rule his people.
The Historical Significance of the Film
~>The Historical Significance i learned from the movie "THE KING AND I" is that, even if you did not know the person, you must try to talk to him or help him in many ways. Do not be selfish. Help others who really need your help. Do not judge them. And last love them and be a good influence to them.
The Social Relevance of the film to our Society
~>For me, the Social Relevance of the film is that,they call their ruler as "KING or QUEEN" while here in the Philippines, we call the "DATU'S or RAHA'S" but now we call our ruler as"PRESIDENT". Like Anna Leonowens did on the movie, he went to other place just to teach other children some lessons like what other teachers do here in the Philippines.
